Bob’s Grill – Kill Devil Hills, NC: Eat and Get the Hell Out
Bob’s Grill offers Breakfast and Brunch. You can’t beat options like classic Shrimp & Grits with Andouille Sausage, ten varieties of stuffed Omelettes alongside the “Best Hashbrowns on the Beach”. Bob’s Grill also features the largest Hot Cakes you’ll find on the beach.
Outside of the classic breakfast-fare and seafood options, Bob’s also offers options for those eating light or with dietary restrictions.
Best Hashbrowns on the Beach
The “Eat and Get the Hell Out” slogan developed quite naturally shortly after Bob’s Grill opened in its first location in 1994. Lunch time was so popular that owner, Bob McCoy, moved among the crowd encouraging them to finish their meals and make tables available for others, many of whom had only 30 minutes for a lunch break.
When you’re on the Outer Banks be sure to stop in and say “hi” and perhaps take home a souvenir of your own to prove that you “Ate and Got the Hell Out” at Bob’s Grill OBX.
I love this place. Been coming here every time we visit obx for almost 20 years. I haven't been in a long time due to the pandemic but I am happy to report bob's grill hasn't changed one bit. It's rare for a restaurant to have such consistent quality for so long. I hope I can come back next year!
My husband and I came here for his birthday breakfast and honestly I quickly realized we should’ve picked a different place. Our sever was sweet other than the fact she miss took my husband as a woman at first, no harm done since we realized it was an honest mistake. We noticed there were no substitutes for pork and were a lil bit disappointed but worked around that . We received our food and it was decent until I realized there was a hair under my biscuit.. unfortunately I didn’t realize until I already ate the biscuit. So there’s that lol . I had brought it to my servers attention and she apologized and quickly checked us out , she seemed like she was in a huge rush to serve a big table that was coming in . I hope if she wasn’t in such a huge rush she would’ve offered a discount or something just for the distasteful fact that one of the works hair made its way onto the plate full of food .. I understand that this diner has been in business by the same owner for 30 years and seemed to built a great reputation but I advise to steer clear of them and try somewhere else maybe .
We had breakfast here our first trip to OBX and first day and it was among the best. Very laid back, friendly atmosphere. The perfect blend of beach culture and Southern hospitality. Service was superb. Fresh, delicious coffee. Food was fantastic and fast. We got there early, not long after they opened. Glad we did because it filled up fast. Shrimp and grits were great! A must go for breakfast in OBX.
We enclave enjoyed our many visits to Bob's Grill and today was no exception. The food was top notch and our server was very good. The place was packed but they had a table for us when we arrived. It's fun to look at the t-shirts that line the ceiling and the various humorous signs by the check-in desk. This place is worth your time and money!!
The cutest beachy breakfast place and their food is absolutely delicious! I ordered the crab Benedict and boyfriend got their shrimp and grits. Both are super tasty. Don’t miss out on their hash browns!!
Pancakes were burt on the bottom and made it impossible to eat. Turned it into rubber. Very large pancakes, take up the entire plate. Probably would have been okay if not burnt.
We eat at Bob’s every year while we are at OBX. The food is delicious and portions generous. Give this place a try, there’s something for everyone. Service is fantastic also!!
Last stop on vacation was this lovely place, I highly recommend the hash browns and the French toast! Both were delicious and had that nice home cooked feel to them! Staff was cheerful and nice, prices were good as well! Hope to visit again!
Great for families. Their hand-held ordering devices don't really allow for any changes to an order. And you don't get to really see your bill because the waitress "isn't allowed to let customers hold the device " nor did we get a paper bill. They need to work on that. My opinion.
Great food - large portions love this place 👍👍 Always busy that's how you know it's good food ! & don't forget to get the hell out. . . after you eat 👍
Love this place! Pancakes are amazing and bigger than your whole head! LOL. It's our leaving day tradition before having to say goodbye to my favorite place.
Breakfast was ok. Had an omelette and it was gray colored. Looked like maybe they used artificial eggs. Was not real warm. My girlfriend had fried eggs and said they were delicious. Good service. Could use a little cleaning up, but I would go back and try something other than an omelette.
Great breakfast diner if you need to slam some comfort food and maybe even indulge in some hair of the dog Mimosas or Bloody Mary’s. The hash-browns were on point. And props for serving corned beef hash and scrabble!
very packed, pancakes were flavorless, dry, and stuck to the plate and as for the syrup it was also flavorless. the sausage was was gross, the fountain sodas was not carbonated, tea was flavorless, the chicken was overcooked. im glad we tried it but definitely will not be returning, was not pleased with the food.
Nice location and plenty to choose on menu. It was busy. It did take 30 minutes to just get coffee and juice. Not sure if that is normal there but that shouldnt be routine for breakfast.
It was food. The "hash browns" were actually home fries but we're closer to grilled mash potatoes but greasy. The bacon tasted old with a heavy, unnatural smoke flavor. The worst part was the waffle. I've never had to use a knife to cut a waffle before. It was so dense and had so much gluten, it had the texture of chewing gum.Their slogan is eat and get the hell out. We couldn't leave fast enough.
A great spot for breakfast. Stopped here on a whim and was very satisfied. It has a small local diner feel. The staff were very friendly and kept the coffee cups full. Breakfast was delicious and the pancakes are absolutely massive we had to take it to go.
Earlene was a great server! Fast, friendly & helpful.Food was FANTASTIC! Kitchen is in the open and clean. Very nice eat and get the hell out to enjoy the day breakfast place!See y’all next time!
The overall service was okay. They don't really have the southern charm, I would say it's more brass. The food was good, it's a good place to go to if you are on your way out of town. The atmosphere is very family friendly, but the decor and look of the place could use some updating, there's no theme. Alcoholic drinks aren't really worth the price. A bigger parking lot is needed. Overall....meh
Waitress Michelle is super!! We ate there 4 times and had her every time. She is so friendly and sweet. And she does an incredible job! The food is fantastic!
I love local spots like this. The food was so good and quick. They really do just want you to eat and get the hell out and I'm ok with that. We went around 11, after the crazy morning rush. Got a table super quick. My only complaint is we waited at least 15 minutes for someone to come over and take our drink order and they never came back to check on us at all so no drink refills. Other than that, it was a nice experience, food and atmosphere. Service at the front register was nice too! You get a discount for paying cash, 4%!
First off walking in the restaurant it was cute and got seated right away , but then is when the nightmare started! We sat there for about 15 mins before getting greeted and our server Claudine was Super Rude ! I order a waffle and wanted it soft along with my bacon ! She keep telling me that not how they did it ! That people in nc like they stuff overcooked . The waffle was bought to my table and it was completely overcooked ! She proceeded to tell me that she told me about it ! And telling me how wrong I was and had to deal with it ! I ask could I switch it out with pancake and told me that I would still have to pay for it ! And then started being even more rude and passive aggression ! She finally get to talking to the manger where I could see them talking about how I didn’t want to pay for my food which was not the case ! The manager Summer came over and completely change my mood she was super sweet and talk to the cooks about just making it soft ! And when our original server came back over while we were talking to summer kept saying how she told me that they only made them completely overcook and how I was wrong while standing there telling the manger In Front of me ! She then say in front of us and the manger that I didn’t want to talk to her and that I asked to switch server which was not the case ! She started to act like a child and walking by and saying unnecessary remarks and talking about us to the table behind us ! Overall the food was good but our server Claudine was the WORST SERVER I HAVE EVER HAD ! And need to be talk to about her attitude and the way she treated and talks to people she could have flip it around and made a tip for me still but instead we gave it to summer !
We were headed to Stack ‘em High, but didn’t know they were closed on Wednesday.Saw Bob’s Grill, right next door & pulled in. I loved the sign! 😆It was early, so there was no wait.Ceiling Fans were on top speed, and it was so cold inside, hubby went outside to get a jacket for me.Our server was Ashley, and she took great care of us.I was able to order an egg white omelette, but there are no gluten-free bread options here.My food was good and satisfying.Hubby’s pancakes were as large as his plate! He said they were not fluffy, and were just “ok”.The diner began filling up as we were eating. No one kicked us out, and the front desk staff were friendly and thanked us for coming.
This place is so packed the waitresses can't even reach your table to bring you your food. The waitresses are running so much that they forget to bring you items you ordered let alone come back to see if you need anything. Won't be back here!
AMAZING breakfast place! Outstanding staff. Our waitress from the Dominican Republic was excellent and attentive. Highly recommend! (Better pancakes than Stack ‘Em High IMO)!
Amazing place to eat! Must say the cooks, especially the lady is on point and fast service!!! Very friendly atmosphere! We are visiting but will definitely be back!! Highly recommend!
Solid breakfast selections w/ quantity and then some. Tables are super close so don't bring ur personal topics to breakfast. Just remember to not dawdle but get the hell out!
Pancakes are HUGE! Like the size of a frisbee, great atmosphere and staff! The food was just the cherry on top. True southern hospitality at its finest! Makes me want to move back!
All of the food was amazing and the service was great. Had the fried steak and gravy plate. You could tell the streak had been seasoned rather than just smothered in gravy. Hashbrows had a lot flavor. My oldest ate her whole plate of pancakes, eggs and bacon which is rare for her.
Delicious and worth the wait! The hotcakes are huge and yummy! The omelets are really good. Our server Claudine was awesome even if things came out a little slow. Definitely a recommend.
One of my fave breakfast places on vacation. Ive got to get me a t shirt. Never had a rude server, even though it's always busy. Love their biscuits and hotcakes!!
When Bob the owner passed away so did the QUALITY OF SERVICE. The food has became mediocre at best and depending on what kind of "mood" the staff is in will depend on your service and amount of refills offered, just scroll through others reviews and see for yourself. I am a Va native so nagshead for me is second home but "obx" doesnt feel welcoming to real nagshead natives anymore and the masses are noticing. No civilized person wants another boyz n tha hood Va beach setting, especially in nagshead, NO ONE!
Great breakfast spot. Staff is friendly despite wanting you to eat get the heck out 😄. There usually is a wait but they try really hard to get you in as quick as possible. We had to wait 10-15 mins is all.
We love this place! We got lucky by being early enough that we didn't have to wait on a table, but the line was out the door when we left. We ordered the Grill Deal and the eggs and bacon were cooked to perfection. The potatoes were great too! My husband got his usual pancake, breakfast dessert, and it was as big as the plate.I highly recommend stopping for breakfast while you are on vacation, but remember to get the hell out when you are done!
Eat and get the hell out is there saying we tried but took extremely long , but it was worth the southern hospitality charm and food was pretty good as well.
My papa absolutely LOVES this place!!! So much so the next time I saw him, he was wearing a Bob’s Grill hat! My sister and I loved the hat so much and wanted to match our papa, I messaged Bob’s Grill on Instagram about getting one of my own. They were so quick to reply and were so kind, they told me to call back the next day to order the hats. Jennifer, the owner, personally texted me photos of my hat options and was so helpful!!! My papa can vouch for the food but I wanted to leave my own review as I was blown away at how kind they were!!
Not sure how the food is. We were seated quickly. Sat and watched 3 people who came in after us get waited on while we sat there with the menu and were not asked what we wanted, so after waiting over 10 minutes we left. I can say the service was not good.
Hash browns weren't hashed, more like half-cooked chunks. Over medium eggs were burnt. Sausage gravy was literally 1/4" thick sausage. Water with a lemon didn't come with a lemon. Country fried steak was 3" across. Would have "eat and get the hell out" except the waitress talked us half to death and recited the menu while I was looking at it. 60 bucks for a breakfast with water. Failed at every thing. Not even good southern cooking. They look at you while you enter a tip. Would not come again and would like to show them how a Southern grilled breakfast is done. Tourist grill for sure because next door has high school trays in a line. Waste of hard-earned cash.
Very delicious. I got french toast and it was so yummy! My friend got blueberry pancakes, which she said was delicious. Atmosphere is fun, and the waitress was very funny! Definitely recommend coming here.
"Eat and get the hell out" is a killer slogan. Small diner with OBX charm. Fried oyster benedict was great. Decent size portions. Friendly server and good service. Place was pretty full, there were 3-4 groups ahead of us but the wait wasn't too long. First meal after a day of car camping at the beach, was a great way to end the trip. Bought a mug as a souvenir. Would come the hell back.
My wife and I tried Bob's on Saturday and liked it so much we came back Sunday, our waitresses especially Helen was great, but now we got to "Get the hell out", lol
Food was delicious. We recommend the pancakes, the crab cake Benedict, and streak omelette. Crab cakes had great flavor - not a lot of filler. A single pancake was huge. One pancake was enough to share between two people who also got a main entree. The omelette was well stuffed and flavored. 10/10 recommend and we will be back! The atmosphere was also very welcoming.
Love the sandwich. We ordered hot pastrami and French dip sandwich..It's so good it hits the hunger right in it place..Nice ambiance t.v.. while you wait and a lot of employees actually doing a lot.I will return again when I'm on this side of the woods.
Our server was delightful. So many choices for breakfast, next time I'll try the fried oyster Benedict but this time I just had eggs, bacon, hash browns & a biscuit. Everything was very tasty and delicious. Love their slogan and once you're done they tell you to get the hell out. LOL. Great place and when I'm back here I'll be sure to come back here for breakfast!
This little hole in the wall is a spectacular place!!I have passed this place a hell of a lot and never stopped...I have always said...Im going to stop there well I finally did and well worth it!The BEST pancakes AND waffles EVER!!We recommend it to anyone and everyone!!the pancakes are almost the size of a basketball!!If you are hungry...GO!!Be ready for a food coma and a cigarette even if you don't smoke ????....Best little spot on the beach!
What a name! This place is hilarious. Service was awesome. Staff enjoyed our jokes and hit me with the timer. I laughed do hard. Food was delicious. Pancakes big as the plate. Will definitely return.
Love Bob's Grill. We visit Hatteras several times a year. ALWAYS stop on our way in and again on our way home. Restaurant is clean, orders come out quickly and the staff friendly. Highly recommend.
Nice place for breakfast. Friendly staff, but lingering after your meal is strongly discouraged, but with humor. This is to allow waiting customers, less wait time.
It was really good. It's really big portions, beware. The pancakes were the size of the plate and I couldn't eat 2. Really loved the atmosphere it was beach bum feeling
Claudine was awesome!! The food was excellent and they definitely give you enough. A casual experience with a homey feel! Will definitely be coming back when we visit OBX!!
Bob's special was out of this world, you got 5 strips of bacon or 2 Banger sausages, 2 THICK pancakes and eggs. Everything was fresh, delicious and hot. Corn beef Hash on the side needed to be a little bit more crispy but still had good favor.
Crystal was our server. She was awesome. The food was fabulous. With huge portions. The atmosphere was definitely friendly and inviting. It was a plus added to a girls' trip. I highly recommend it. A++++
We were seated as soon as we walked in, despite them being very busy. We ordered and had drinks in hand in just a couple minutes, had our food within 15 minutes. Had chicken and waffles and seafood Benedict, both very good. Service was impeccable, making sure we knew to “get the hell out” after we finished as well as “come the hell back”. Highly recommend enjoying a breakfast or lunch at this establishment, the world needs more diners like this.
Food was great and, despite their tagine, they were not too crowded or pushy to get you out. Prices were a little high for simple dishes but things that are normally high, like omelets, were very reasonable. The "hashbrowns" are more like homefries but were very well done. Lots of jelly options, which can be rare of a small breakfast joint. We will return.
$22 for a fried oyster eggs “Benedict”Eggs were fried, not poached, and the fried oysters were cold. When asking the waitress why my eggs weren’t poached she throws her hands up and says, “We don’t poach our eggs here!”1/10 would not recommend.
Don’t know about the food. Walked in at 12:15 and was immediately seated by an amazing hostess who was very friendly. At 12:27 a server walked up - “What do you want to drink?” no hello. Nothing. She then proceeded to go back and socialize with other servers (who were doing their jobs) even though we had waited 12 minutes for her to even take our drink order. After watching her talk for another two Minutes we left at 12:29. Maybe next time will be better. Can’t “get the hell out” if you cant even eat.
We had the best waitress and the service was super fast. Had the blueberry pancakes which were HUGE and delicious. Hubby got a waffle and bacon and ate everything. This place is a gem.
I love me some Bob's breakfast! The food was great as usual, and my server Helen took great care of me from beginning to end. It was a great experience.
Bob's Grill is a must visit any time my family and I are in the OBX. Fantastic breakfast fare—don't miss the exceptional sausage gravy, fluffy biscuits or oversized hot cakes! The last time we were in, our server took extra care our party with two babies was well looked after. Enjoyed every moment of our visit then got the hell out! ????
